Forgive me if I have posted into the wrong topic. I am a total newbie to this forum and to UPS. I tried to get a feel for what goes where, but I'm still not sure.
Wanting some protection for my home computers, I shopped UPS solutions and settled on the APC BX 1300 LCD because I have heard only good things about APC and this model seemed to offer good value for the price. It offers the various features I was told to look for, including user-replaceable batteries. On the packaging (back of the box) it says "User-Replaceable & Hot Swappable Batteries. Can be replaced with minimal effort without powering down your equipment......"
Curious about the cost of replacements, I looked up this model on the APC replacement parts site, and found no listing. I emailed the service group, and the reply says that the BX (or is it XS?) LCD models do no have replaceable batteries. I'm not really sure what that means. Does it mean that when the batteries go bad, I have to chuck the unit and get a whole new UPS unit? Seems like quite a waste. (Also seems like bogus advertising on the box.) If this is true, is there some other model that makes more sense for someone like me - - who doesn't like to throw away an appliance because its batteries went dead?
I haven't broken the box open yet, so I can return the unit and switch to a different model. But I find the whole XS, RS, BX, .. whatever scheme a bit confusing (yup, I said I was I newbie), and it just gets worse from there for me.
Thanks for any clarification and advice.

I don't set the prices so I don't know what the price is going to be when it's released.
BUT other than that, your assumptions are correct. I wouldn't expect to see a sku'd battery for the first three years.

The battery should be stated in the manual as something like an APCRBC105.
They haven't been released yet to manufacturing because the UPS is still within its first 3 years of use, and any problems that result in a failed battery, should be reviewed as the unit overall. Those units come back to APC, undergo inspection, and look at the cause of the failed battery.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I think I understand, but I'd like to clarify - - - -
The unit is covered under warranty for 3 years. A battery failure within 3 years is considered premature, and the unit should be examine by APC to determine the cause. APC will make repairs and - if necessary - replace the battery. Therefore, there is no need for me to buy user-replacement batteries during the first 3 years.
Apparently, the BX 1300 LCD model is less than 3 years old, so nobody that owns one needs to buy replacement batteries yet, for the reason given above. That's why APC isn't selling them. However, when the model has been on the market for 3 years, APC will make replacement batteries available to users.
Is that essentially correct?
Any rule of thumb for what replacement batteries cost? Are they, say, half the original cost of the UPS unit? Just curious.
Thanks very much for helping me out. Obviously, I can use all the help I can get right now.
