My RS-800 backup unit was clicking and failing the 'self-test' portion of startup, where the green light fails to come on and the yellow light flashes.
I removed the batteries to test the connections but got confused when re-attaching the wires to the positive and negative terminals.
Does the short yellow wire connect +/+ or +/-? Does it matter which battery is on top?
I gave it a shot and caused some smoke... any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dante,
Can you provide the exact Model and Serial number for the unit? This information
can be found on the small white bar code sticker.

It sounds as if you've disassembled the 24vdc battery cartridge. The 12vdc batteries are connected in Series to increase their operating voltage to 24vdc. I would not recommend attempting to reconnect the wires if you are unsure of their placement. From the serial number I can determine that the unit was manufactured in 2007. The batteries will typically function in the unit for approximately 3-5yrs before requiring replacement. I would recommend replacing the battery at this point. The unit uses the RBC32 replacement battery cartridge.

That sounds about right. I appreciate the feedback and will look into a replacement battery.
