Problem with backup power

okay.. the model is be500y-IN... when i switch on the UPS it goes into a self test mode ... as usual like it does... i used to switch on the PC soon after the UPS is put on (and before the self test starts)
the self test will take place while the PC is booting up..until 2 days back.., when my PC is booting up and the moment the UPS goes into self test mode, my CPU is put off!as if, like it was being tripped off.. thats the issue. also..., when i try to test the UPS by switching off the mains when my PC is on, the system goes for a restart or OFF position... is this a confirmed symptom of battery failure?
when i spoke to the call center, the guy said there could be a problem with the pc's smps ...the ups is 2 yrs old approx..

Karthik,

I have attached the user manual for your UPS, see if you could find the description of the problem under Status Indicators.

It's good to hear that the issue has been fixed now. I was suspecting that it was the battery but I was not familiar with your unit since I am supporting units for US and Canada region.

Welcome to the APC forum Karthik!

Can you further explain what is going on with your UPS? Your post above says that your UPS runs a self-test the moment you turn it ON which is how it was designed. The UPS will then run another self-test after 14 days.

Karthik,

Thanks for giving this information. Now I understand it better, the computer shuts off whenever the UPS runs a self-test. Here are some steps that would help us diagnose the problem.

- Perform a pull plug test while your UPS is Online, let us know if the it would turn off or if the load attached to it turns off.
- Perform a self test on the UPS with no load attached to it. You run a self test by turning off and turning on the UPS or on some models while the UPS is online you could press and hold the On/Test and release it once the Online LED starts flashing
- Kindly observe the LED and Audio indicators of your UPS

-> The load attached gets switched off and the red light glows on the UPS with the beeper sounding continuously

Perform a self test on the UPS with no load attached to it
-> This runs just perfect

After running a self-test was there any LED light that lit up? Doing a pull plug test you've said that there was a read light that came on, was that the Overload LED?

During the self test, the amber glows as usual and once it is done the green light turns back (when running self test successfully without the load connected)
The red light glows on but i dont have any separate LED's for the functions.. its just the colour of the same bulb... so yes, that should be the overload LED
