I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Desktop with Windows updates installed. I hooked up my Back-UPS today after not using it for two years because of the planned power outages and it said that I needed to install the updated Powerchute. So I updated and it hasn't installed or worked ever since, and keeps crashing my computer.
It installed most of the program and then crashed my computer with a Blue Screen error when it's almost completely installed. This is the BSOD information from BlueScreenView:
Bug check string: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
Bug check code: 0x00000024
Caused by driver: Ntfs.sys
When I restart the computer and try to run Powerchute I get a dialog saying this:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computers system information to see whether you need a 32 bit or 64 bit version" etc...
I have my computer set to not sleep in the power options of the control panel and it has always been that way, so I don't know why all of a sudden it would matter. I've made sure that the 2 services that say APC are set to automatic, and I have searched all the services for anything with APC in the description but haven't found anything else to enable.
Is there a service I need that I may have set to disabled? I couldn't find a services list in the search, and the manual wasn't much help.
thank you for any pointers or help you can provide.

Hi,

You do not need to install PowerChute for the UPS to work. If PowerChute is not installed the UPS will switch to battery in the event of a power failure. If you are using the computer the UPS will beep warning you the UPS is on battery allowing you to save your work and power the computer off.
If you would like graceful unattended shutdown you can achieve that by configuring the power option in the control panel. Again, you would not need to install PowerChute. See Schneider Electric FAQ FA159653
The error posted indicates a file system error caused by the NTFS driver. I did a web search on the error and found many posts. Here is a link to one that may help. https://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/fix-ntfs-sys-bsod-on-windows/
