PowerChute won't see the UPS

Have a Back UPS RS 500 connected to a PowerMac G4 through the on board USB port. The UPS was BOT through an APC re-seller/re-furbisher with no RJ45 to USB cable, so I BOT one off eBay 'cause it was 1/4 the cost of one purchased thru APC. Unfortunately from what I've read, I think APC uses a proprietary pin-out sequence forcing purchase of their cables. Can anyone confirm this?

Most companies do not use RJ45 to USB for their device communications; there is no "standard" for RJ45 to USB, only for RJ45 (4 pair) and USB (A-B) individually. For many cases where an RJ45 to USB connection is required, an adapter is used in lieu of an actual full cable. APC cannot provide the pinouts of their UPS comm cables, and recommends the purchase of the RJ45-USB simple signaling cable to guarantee UPS communication.
