I installed a Quality Update for Windows 10 yesterday March 25, 2025, 2025-03 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5053643). Since then, the PowerChute Serial Shutdown service will not start on a startup / restart or when I go in as Administrator to the Services app and try to start it manually. The service reports the error:
The Event Viewer / System log shows:
The web page for https://localhost:6547/status reports:
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:6547.
since the service is not running.
Do we need an update of the PowerChute Serial Shutdown software? My current version is 1.3.0.0 11/15/2024

FredKM, thank you for the advice. I tried the repair upgrade installing the same version over the existing version. That failed when Create Service failed to start the service. I uninstalled PCSS, needed to do a restart. After the restart, installed PCSS, went through initial setup. PCSS is working now. I am able to view the service data via the web browser at https://localhost:6547/status. Thanks again, Bob

Note that KB5053643 is an optional update. I tried to replicate your issue by installing this update, but for me the PowerChute Serial Shutdown 1.3 service starts normally after installing the update and restarting the OS.
You could try to uninstall and re-install PowerChute Serial Shutdown and see if that resolves the issue. Or maybe first try a repair upgrade installation (install the same version again which will preserve your existing configuration).
If that doesn't help, then see if uninstalling KB5053643 fixes the issue.
