Sorry for opening this one, but the other thread at https://community.se.com/t5/APC-UPS-for-Home-and-Office-Forum/bd-p/home-office-forum has been locked and I don't know why...
I would like to know if there's some progress on this and if we should expect a fix for this issue with UAC prompting at each boot of Windows. If so (as I really hope!!!), when is it expected to be released?
I'm on Windows Vista.
Thanks in advance,
Mauro

Good to hear that a fix is in the works. I did not see any mention of an intention to fix until i got to this thread. In the earlier thread there was a mention of trying to find a way to skip using registry entries. I'm using the run as admin on display.exe option. It is important to make sure you use the "show settings for all users" on the exe properties/compatibility setting, or you will need to do it under each user id.
So are we going to end up with the good'ole ini file again. gotta love it!

h1. this is now fixed!
PCPE version 3.0.0.1 is now available on the web. This is an interim release that is available in English & German and addresses three major concerns.
Fixes in this release:*
•With Windows UAC enabled, when a user logged on to Windows Vista or Windows 7, the UAC dialog always asked the user to approve starting the PowerChute Systray icon. This will no longer happen.
•After un-installing PowerChute, hibernation was not being restored and has been corrected.
• When selecting PowerChute Technical data screen it would be displayed very slowly and sometimes the internal PC fan made a lot of noise (indicating over usage). This has also been addressed.
Here is the link to the software or you can browse to it on apc.com/tools/download

we locked the thread because a solution was provided and then it will be addressed in PCPE 3.0.1, tentatively due out towards Q3-Q4 of this year, but that could changed. i also stated that here yet again. we just don't want to have numerous threads reviewing this issue so that is why the thread was locked.
you can either a.) wait for the future release of the software or 2.) perform the workarounds mentioned in the various threads.
again, this will be addressed in a future revision but it is not the only item being addressed so that is why it will not be available right away.
thanks.

Hi, I didn't find the other thread you mentioned. Searching a bit I found another topic which was closed because it was a duplicate of the other one I mentioned and which is locked.
Sorry, but I don't consider the issue "solved": the mentioned workaround cannot be considered a solution, since it disables UAC completely. It's something like: "to prevent my software to make noise, please turn off your speakers"...
Anyway, if you don't want numerous threads reviewing the same issue, you should better create an only sticky thread with updates on the issue and point users to it, without locking it. I opened this thread because the other one had been closed a long time ago while the problem is still there. I believe you when you say that there are other issues to front for the upcoming PCPE release, but I consider this one a severe problem that I wonder how could pass the beta test phase of the software...
Mauro.

hi mauro,
i agree with you. perhaps we should create a sticky as you mentioned. i also unfortunately am only the messenger here and do not have any direct interaction with the software release and how this was "allowed" to pass production testing.
unfortunately, what was provided in the other thread as a solution or workaround is all we have currently. i have not received any additional information but i don't think i will get any until the next release of the software that will not contain this "issue" since that is what PCPE folks decided to do.
i will pass it along to the appropriate folks though so that they understand your opinion and frustration with the topic. i cannot say that if i used the software that it wouldnt bother me too.
