PC reboots when I print to a network printer

I have a Win7 (64) workstation connected to a home network via cable... I installed a brand new BE550G a week ago. Every time I print to a laser printer (for the 1st time) it will reboot my PC. The printer is not connected to my PC and is connected to a router which is protected by its own UPS. All servers (3) and 2 printers have their own UPS's.

Once I finish rebooting I can then print ok without it rebooting. On the new 550 I have my PC with a 23" monitor and 2 small speakers. No other accessories.

Hi Derek,

You may restart the print spooler service and delete the print jobs to check if it helps to fix the issue.

a) Press the Windows key and R on the keyboard together.

b) Type “Services.msc” inside the box and press Enter.

c) Click on Print Spooler service and right-click on it.

d) Click the "Stop" button to stop the Print Spooler Service if it is running.

e) Check whether the Startup type is set to Automatic. If not, then set it to Automatic.

f) Go to the following location and delete all the pending documents from the “Printer”. “C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS”

g) Delete all the queued print jobs (select and delete all the files) in the folder so the folder is devoid of pending print jobs. The folder should be empty when you are done.

h) Restart your system and check the Print Spooler Service again to be sure the Print Spooler Service restarts automatically on reboot (since the Startup type is set to Automatic).

Hi Derek,

I am just curious with what is going on. Does the PC reboots even if you've used a different PC to print on the same printer? There are some instances wherein even if the printer is not attached to the UPS, whenever it initiates itself or heats up the heating element it eats/consumes a large amount of electricity. During this state, the UPS detects a sag/low voltage and that would cause it to run on battery.

On your end it would really be helpful to know if the UPS would run on battery or would it stay online when you print. It would be helpful to know if it is just the PC that is affected.

Hi Derek,

May I ask where the printer is connected? Is it on the same wall outlet and/or same circuit where the UPS is plugged in?

Also, whenever the printer is working and the computer rebooted, do you know the state of the UPS?If it emitted a beep (like it's on battery)?

The printer is not on the same wall outlet - different outlet, same circuit.

I don't hear any beeps when I print... all I hear is a click and then it reboots. I did notice the other day that it went to the UPS briefly when I tried to print. Do you think I've got my voltage limits set to high (on the low end)?

I'm puzzled as to why the new UPS doesn't mask the issue... I've had no problems printing in the past when I didn't have the UPS.

Sorry for the delay - I was out of town the entire week.

I tried printing to the printer from a Windows server on the network and it worked just fine - it did not reboot.

I wonder if it is a power supply issue on my workstation? I'm going to buy an upgraded power supply and will see what happens...

Hi Derek,

Have you tried re-installing the Printer Driver on your PC? I think we had similar issues though mine was not a network printer but a printer attached to a computer and shared on the network. My printer was connected on a Windows 7 PC and I installed it on my laptop that is running Windows XP. When I used my laptop to print, it rebooted.

Yes, I've just tried to uninstall the printer driver and reinstall a fresh new one downloaded from the vendor. Same result.

I have run out of idea. Other things that I can think of are : (1) Removing the PC from the UPS; (2) Calling the manufacturer of the printer; (3) Reinstalling the Operating System; and (4) Calling the manufacturer of the PC.

The above-mentioned issue is that the system crashes and reboots when printing might have occurred due to corrupt printer drivers or the printer settings are incorrect on the system.in order to confirm it, I would suggest you to first Run inbuilt printer troubleshooter and check if it works and if this is not helpful then use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.
