Hello I just receive my APC BR550GI. It's my first UPS, I would liek to connect it over the network so I can set up my Nas to shut down if any power failure.
Their is 2 ethernet port in the back, 1 in and 1 out. I try to plug each to my switch/routers but it doesn''t seems to get any ip address or so on.
Can somebody help on how to plug my pro 550 to the network, the should I use something to configure it?
The user guide is really helping on that topic
Thanks for your help

Hello,
BR550GI only supports data line network protection - meaning you can run a cable IN from your modem and back OUT to your router to prevent any surges or spikes coming in via that interface. So basically, BR550GI offers the functionality that these devices do here inside of it too: http://www.apc.com/products/family/?id=145
BR550GI cannot connect to the network as it has no network interface card. The only connection it supports for monitoring or graceful shutdown is USB via a RJ-45 to USB connection, intended for a computer or maybe even the NAS directly. The RJ-45 jack intended for this cable (should be included with your UPS) is labeled DATA PORT on the UPS itself.
I hope that helps clarify.

Hi Angela thanks for you answer
Ok if my NAS is not connected to the APc their is no way the APC can tell the NAS to shut down?
I need to try to connect the RJ-45/USB cable received with the UPS and connected it to the NAS correct?
Then how can I control the APC is communicating well with my NAS (its and Asusto As-5004T)

Hi Ka,
Yes your understanding is correct. A lot of NAS vendors build in UPS support to their devices via USB and sometimes SNMP. You'll want to see if your NAS has some type of Uninterruptible Power Supply support built in. Does it have any USB ports on it? That will be a good sign at least.
I found this so it looks like they support something-> http://www.asustor.com/service/ups?id=ups
