I have the SC1500. It has a USB to serial cable. When I plug this into my Mac the UPS tab does not appear in the Preferences/power save menu.
Many people say that this menu appears when they plug their UPS in but I can't find a specific mention of the sc1500 doing this.
In system profile the USB port shows up as USB-Serial Controller D - but it does not mention that it is a UPS.
Is there anything that I can do ?

I was surprised too. I tried it as a last resort.
I'm running Lion. It does seem to communicate fine though. I shut down the power and sure enough a message appeared on my screen telling me there was a power failure.
I'm dissapointed that OSXs built in UPS support doesn't seem to recognize it. Someone from APC just told me this SC1500 will not work with a Mac. Would have been good if they could have mentioned that in a prominent position on the website page for the sc1500.....

I'll clarify something else. By installing the final version of Powerchute personal 1.3.4 on my Mac Pro, it successfully detected the SC1500 attached to the computer via USB-Serial cable. But this software is no longer supported because apparently OSX handles UPS itself in the power saving menu. But it doesn't appear for me? Why not ?
Any help/ideas much appreciated.

well, SC1500 is really a Smart UPS and is intended to be used with PCBE. It is similar to a Back UPS in some aspects so I am assuming thats why it worked with PCPE but I am still a little shocked on that one.
what version of Mac OS is this by the way?
