Need Help Choosing - Backup-UPS ES (BE750G) OR Back-UPS RS 800VA ?

Need help in decidng which is better fit for me to choose - Backup-UPS ES (BE750G) OR Back-UPS RS 800VA ? .... There both close in VA/Watts, so ignoring that aspect.

1. One is described as "Standby" and the other desrcibed as "Line-Interactive", in what situations is one a better choice over the other ?

2. What are the important feature differences between the two and in what situations are these features needed ?

It depends on the equipment you're connecting to the UPS.

The RS models have boost/trim options for when the utility voltage is low whereas the ES models don't - they transfer to battery instead of using a transformer to adjust the voltage. That means the batteries are likely to last longer in the RS models.

The RS family also has a shorter transfer time (when it needs to go on battery) than the ES family, which has the longest transfer time of all of the units (8-10ms).

The BE750G has the master/control option which that RS doesn't have yet, though newer ones will.

Those are most of the differences that I can think of at the moment. I personally prefer the BR800 over the BE750, but that's just my opinion. Maybe if you list what equipment you plan to connect, we can come up with a "best fit."

Based on your info, I am leaning towards the RS - BR800.

FYI, Connecting a PC (intel dual core processor - 2.6Ghz), 17" LCD and External Backup Drive.
Also, everytime there is a thunderstorm, or rain with high windows end up losing AC. In these type of rain stroems, usual senario is Lights blink several times within a few minutes, then power outage. During spring/summer, average 1 outage every month.

When I pulled up the apc description on the apc web page, for the BR800, it did *not* mention "voltage regulation "or the term AVR, but it did say "line regulation". I guess "line regulation" means AVR ?

Yep, same thing. Technically that model only has boost (since undervoltage is a more common issue than overvoltage) so it isn't exactly the same, but it does adjust the voltage automatically. Just only one direction, unlike the BR1200 or BR1500, which are the two models in that family that do both.

So what happens if an over-voltage occurs when using the RS - BR800 ?
... Does thr BR800 do anything to protect your PC (which is connected to the BR800), from receiving damage from an over-voltage ?

I was just wondering. lets say you use a UPS(like the (Backup UPS ES - BE750G) which does not have low-voltage regulation/line conditioning and you plug into this UPS, an External USB Drive via the external drive's power brick.

*.1.* If the AC power to my house experiences a Low-voltage then occurs can it destory or damage the type of Power Brick used by the External USB Drive?

*.2.* .....Can an AC power Low-voltage also damage the type of Power Bricks commonly used in Laptop PC's ?

*3*. Does it produce a Buzz/Hum Noise, when AC Power is present ?

I'm not entirely sure I understand the first 2 questions fully... but even without the line voltage, the BE models will simply switch to battery instead of boosting or trimming the voltage. So you still have protection, of course, and any equipment attached would have the same protection. Either way I don't see how an undervoltage condition would necessarily cause damage to a power brick - typically if there is insufficient power, it will just turn off. This way cause damage to the computer itself, which is consistent with any improper shutdown, but the brick itself would be fine.

As for your other questions, they're a bit easier! 🙂

I don't notice any hum personally when it's operating on AC power, though if it's boosting or trimming, it definitely makes some noise.

Yes, it also hums louder when it's operating on battery power, just like any UPS does.

No, this unit does not have a fan.
