Intermintent power

Hello,

We had an older UPS with 2 computers and monitors connected to it. It didn't have enough slots to plug in computers to the battery backup, so we purchased the APC UPS. We switched them and the APC would beep occassionally. I switched it back to the older one and saw that though it didn't beep, but it would use the battery backup from time to time. We had an electrician test the outlets and he said they were fine. I plugged the 2 new APCs in and they didn't not beep, but they didn't have equipment attached to them. Any ideas why the UPS' would lose power and switch to battery backup?

Thanks,

Try unplugging the printer and check if the problem persists.

Different branch means an outlet fed from a different circuit breaker at the panel. It's a good idea to give the laser printer it's own dedicated circuit, but this isn't realistic in homes, so you have to relocate/use extension cords. Turn off the breaker that supplies power to the outlet you're using right now. Then, find another outlet around the room or another room that is still on, that one is on a different "branch".

If you're going to use an extension cord, don't make it longer than necessary. You should use a 12 AWG cord if you're going to extend the power to laser printer.

Adjust your sensitivity settings on the UPS. Install PowerChute to one of the PC's and let the software monitor the UPS. That should fix the problem.

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming that the software allows me to adjust the sensitivity.

So long as it's a PC and not a MAC, yes, you will be able to.

What model did you get? Some have a button on the back that lets you change it and some you can do it with HyperTerminal equivalent in Mac with a right cable.

A laser printer on the same circuit as computer will often cause the issue you're having, so if you have one, try to move the printer or the computer to a circuit fed from a different branch.
