Have APC UPS (BE700G-UK) and VGA KVM switch killed my motherboard?
Hello guys,
I have APC UPS and I connected my home server to the battery-backed socket. I connected my laptop and monitor to the surge-protected socket on the UPS. I interconnected all 3 devices - server, laptop and monitor with simple KVM VGA switch. KVM switch is powered via USB (I can decide which one).
What happened to me with this setup whilst I was connecting VGA cable - I noticed a small spark and then my server motherboard stopped working - the LED on it still works, but CPU FAN is not moving. I tried to replace all components with identical motherboard and all si working fine. So the bottom line is my old MB is dead.
Also it seems the same problem happened second time when I tried to connect my friend's computer instead of my server - it seems his motherboard is dead now... (with the similar symptoms - LED is on, but fans are not spinning...)
Have I done something which I have not supposed to or is there anything I can do to fix my setup?
My devices are:
UPS: APC BE700G-UK
KVM switch: Startech 2 Port USB VGA Cable KVM Switch - USB Powered
