Graceful manual shutdown of Smart-UPS SMT750 with attached NAS?

Hi all,

I've got Smart-UPS SMT750 with attached NAS (ASUSTOR 304T). The NAS is controlled via USB.

This combination works well when the power goes off. I verified it by unplugging the UPS from the mains; the UPS sends the shutdown signal to the NAS, which shuts down gracefully, and after that the UPS turns off. I also looked at the NAS logs and found the shutdown signals from the UPS there.

However, the graceful shutdown doesn't happen when I turn off the UPS with the On/Off button.

What happens:

  1. I press the On/Off button on the UPS and see on the display:
    Turn UPS Off:
    No
  2. With the arrow keys, I change the answer to "Yes" and press the Enter key.
  3. The following "UPS Control:" menu appears, with the following options:
    Off - Use Delay
    Off - No Delay
    Reboot - Use Delay
    Reboot - No Delay
    No Action
  4. The "No Action" works as advertised - nothing happens when I choose it.
  5. The "Off" options power off the UPS, with or without delay. No shutdown signal is sent to the attached NAS, the UPS just powers off and cuts the power off the NAS without notice. I verified lack of shutdown signal later, looking at the NAS logs.
  6. The "Reboot" options power off the UPS and then power it back on, with or without delay. No shutdown signal is sent to the attached NAS, the UPS just powers off and cuts the power off the NAS without notice. I verified lack of shutdown signal later, looking at the NAS logs.

So when I need to shutdown the NAS + UPS, I have to power off the NAS first, and UPS next. Or just unplug the UPS from the mains which is a one-click operation but it feels a bit rude.

Is there a gentle way of powering off the UPS with attached NAS in one click?

Thanks,

Alexey
