Faulty battery can cause the breaker to trip?

Hi All

If the battery is faulty it can cause the breaker to trip?

Our remote office have 1 APC UPS Su3000RMXLI the unit was totaly down, i try to power up the unit but the breaker was trip. I try to open the battery module then i found that the some of the battery bloated already. Our vendor replace the faulty battery module and the unit is working fine.
So my question is why the breaker trip? If the battery is the cause can you help to to explaine coz i really can't understand why.,Thanks in advance

hmm, at first glance, this does not seem likely.

on the back of this particular UPS, i believe there is an input circuit breaker, which is near the input power connection and then there may be output circuit breakers. from the pictures i can see, it only looks like the output breakers are on the 120v models but can you confirm?

it is a 40 amp breaker so for that to trip, the UPS needed to draw more than 40 amps (overload) or something shorted it out to believe it did. what is the load on this particular UPS - the percentage (or how many load LEDs on the front left of the display panel are lit up) as well as the type of equipment?

you said it was a remote office - so was there nobody there that could have possibly hit the breaker accidentally or anything like that?

did you have any software/network management card or anything monitoring the UPS?

Hi

FYI, the ups input voltage 220-240Vac, and there is no circuit breaker at the output side, the input breaker didn't trip, only the main circuit breaker ( utility breaker ) was trip, coz we install a circuit breaker at the input supply of the ups, yah nobody on the site and im the only one who have a key for the network room,.
The equipment connected to he ups is only 5 cisco switches, no load LED lights up and no NMC card was installed in out unit.
