I've had this unit for several years and this is the second time I've replace the battery. The new battery arrived today and upon installation only the outlets on the "surge protection" side are working. Does the new battery need to charge for a while before the "Surge Protection-Battery Backup" outlets will work or is my unit fried? I ask this because the old battery I took out was very hot and was warping along the plastic body of the battery. The Power button does not do anything when pressed as well. Thanks.

Hi Larry,
The batteries need to have some charge for the unit to turn on but not 100%. If you have given it a few hours and it is still not responding I would think that the unit has reached the end of its life. We typically say to expect 7-10 years from our back-ups. Perhaps the old battery reaching a high temperature did some damage to the internal circuitry of the unit. We do offer a trade-ups program where you get a 15-25% discount on a new unit and we recycle your old one for you via a pre=paid shipping label.
