I'm battling an issue with Cox Cable Internet service. Their Cox TV Connect app on iPad demands that WiFi connection reflect the base router's IP address. For whatever reason, the iPad WiFi returns an IP address that does not match the base router.
Right now, the incoming Cox cable goes to Cox modem --> UPS network IN/OUT ports --> Netgear router for wired and wireless Net access. There's lots more to the system -- a Sonos bridge and Trendnet Ethernet switch provide add'l ports for a variety of components -- but the wireless signal comes from the base router, and the only thing between it and the modem is the UPS.
Cox suggests that running the network cable through the UPS is changing the IP address and preventing TV Connect app from recognizing that I am using my Cox home wifi. Is this true? Is there any way to make UPS reflect "original" IP address, short of not utilizing the UPS for network protection?
If I get the time and inclination, I will temporarily reroute CAT5 to isolate UPS from network and then see if app works. But before I tackle that snake's nest, wanted to ask the question here. TIA for any info.
BTW Cox rep said they are working on a new app that would not demand home network IP, but no ETA. . .

Hello,
No, the UPS network protection is just a pass through and it cannot manipulate an IP address through it. What IP is the app showing? The only thing I can think of is it is an issue with the IP addresses your router is giving out to its clients.
I am not sure I 100% I understand though - they are saying the cable modem IP (public IP) is different than your router's (which should not be the case)? The only thing we do see a question with sometimes is more with the coaxial connection (and not Ethernet) where bi-directional communication is required there to utilize on demand services that companies like Cox offer.

Thank you for the confirmation, Angela. One more piece of the puzzle. . . at some point I will probably unplug the entire network, take it down to modem/router/iPad and see if the app works in that condition. If not, boot the question over to Cox. If it works, then start adding components until I discover the culprit. Just need time and motivation for that amount of troubleshooting!
