Dell Optiplex 9020 needs pure sine wave?
Have 3 Dell Optiplex 9020 MT which according to the specs here uses a PFC power supply. Looking for a UPS these units and wonder whether in fact these computers require UPSs with a pure sine wave output. According to point 8 in those specs:
PSU: This form factor utilizes a more efficient Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) power supply. Dell recommends only Universal Power Supplies (UPS) based on Sine Wave
output for APFC PSUs, not an approximation of a Sine Wave, Square Wave, or quasi-Square Wave (see UPS technical specifications). If you have questions please contact the
manufacturer to confirm the output type.
The thing is Dell.com had listed a APC BE750G UPS as an option for this model but I do not think that this is a pure sinewave UPS. Is it? Will be driving this computer with one rotational hard drive along with a 24" Ultrasharp monitor.

Hi pcguy,
The BE750G is infact a Step Approximated Sinewave output and given Dells requirements for this APFC PSU, the BE750G would not be adequate. All of APC's Back-UPS product families either produce a Step Approximated or Quasi Sinewave when on inverter.
Inplace of the Back-UPS Line of Product I would recommend a product from the Smart-UPS family of UPS. The Dell Optiplex 9020 Mini-Tower appears to have a 290w AFPC PSU w/ a Pure Sinewave requirement. Given those specs, I would recommend the SMT750 for your application.
Best,
Secret Squirrel

The SMT750 is going to be a tough sell pricewise for my client especially when they will need 3 of them. Would a SC620 or a SMC1000 work?

Unfortunately, the SC/SMC models are also all Step-Approximated. The Smart-UPS 750 is the smallest Pure-Sinewave Schneider produces.
