The original data port cable of BE 550GR seems to have on one end the RJ50 10p10c plug.
Actually we need to connect this UPS with protected device (a NAS) a significantly shorter
data cable than the original one attached by vendor to UPS.
Hence, similar as the original one is going to be assembled, however of much less length.
If to look into the transparent 10p10c connector one can see 5 wires, 2 black, white, green, red.
The coat of original data cable shows "USB revision 2.0".
Does it mean it will work if to start the new cable assembly with a ready USB 2.0 cable with
standard A plug on one end and 5 pins micro plug on another end? Then replace the micro plug (5 pins) with 10p10c one?
I wonder if USB 2.0 cables with one 5pins micro plug available on the market have 5 wire cable.

Indeed. This seems to be only reasonable solution. The more reasonable if to consider the price of original cable of nearly 40 US Dollars.
However I wonder if such loops do not form an induction element generating significant interferer to other cables.
I got the impression this cable (raw cable without plugs) is produced for APC on special order, proprietary cable.
Otherwise which cable is to be ordered from local retailer or ebay as exact replacement? Did not manage to find such.
One twisted pair, one untwisted pair and one single cord.
You are right, that with cutting in the middle will not be such badly for the coat filter.
Yes, I am aware of the on-the-Go USB variant, however in doubts it will help. Because the 5th pin is connected to ground (if any) within the same connector
so no 5th wire in usb cable is needed.

BE 550GR? UPS solution with APC brand. Actually, BE 550G-GR.
data port? BE 550GR's port to connect it with host station, or the protected station.
data port cable? a cable shipped with / attached to BE 550GR originally by APC. It connects this UPS with for instance the protected station.

Would it not be infinitely easier to simply cut out the excess length in the middle of the existing cable and then splice the two ends back together?

No, it won't be easier. In at least one circumstance it will be even worse.
Let's imagine something goes wrong while doing that 'simply cut out the excess length in the middle of the existing cable and then splice the two ends back together'.
In such a case no backup for this cable available!!!
Furthermore the cable has some coat filter near to the C10J10 end, if to cut it in the middle no filter present any more!!

Fair enough, I was not aware that you were concerned about having a spare cable.
I found this while looking into making a cable, but then realized I do not have a tool to crimp a 10-pin connector (I am an electrician and have the tool for RJ45/RJ11). Turns out I can buy a cable off ebay for about $10 including shipping, so I have opted to go that route and will let you know if the cables I buy work with the various APC units I am getting them for.
If you cut in the middle, the filter will remain once you have spliced the cable back together /shrug
I guess my only other question is why it is not considered sufficient to simply make a small loop of the excess cable length and tie it out of the way.
By the way, earlier you were asking about 5-wire USB cables ... have a look at this handy wiki article, about half way down it has a great section on Pinouts.
