CS 350 Serial port

Hi

I've just bought APC CS 350. I'm trying to make it communicate using apcsmart protocol over serial port like it is written in PDF manual to APC UPS daemon. Problem is, that I get no response from UPS to any code I send to it. Only thing that happens, when I unplug inlet plug, is that it sends 00hex to computer. It seems it works in dumb mode. Is there way to switching it to smart mode?

Connection over USB works perfectly, but there is lack of functions implemented in delivered program.

Well that's strange. In manual there is written, that Back UPS line supports smart signaling.

Anyway, only I need from UPS to know in what state it is. I was thinking even about temperature load and so on, but it is not really priority to know these infos.

My project is UPS that is placed far and it will be controlled by ethernet module. It will be working as a backup for few mikrotik AP's.

So simple signaling is enough for me.
