Battery backup doesn't backup

My APC Back-UPS ES 750 shows itself to be 100% charged. However, if the power goes of, it fails to do anything to keep the computer running. If I test it by unplugging it, the same result happens. Any ideas?

Good day Bangorme,

When you unplugged the UPS, did it immediately went off or do you hear it beeping and see an LED flashing? It would help as well if you could provide the model and serial number of the unit.

how old are the batteries? Sounds like it is time for new ones. They may show fully charged (voltage) but they have no capacity left.

More info: Just did a "self-test" in Windows 7 using the PowerChute software: computer turned off. Oddly enough, the PowerChute software has no record of the failed test.

Oddly enough, this started to happen THE DAY I got the warning that the battery had reached a certain age. When I contacted APC, they swore up and down that it was just a coincidence. I'll believe them, but I suspect that something in the software got fouled up when that warning came up. I don't believe the battery is worn out, in one day.

Model: BE750G
Serial: 4B0738P09132

When I unplug it, the power goes off in anything attached to the UPS. There is a click sound in the UPS a second after the power goes off. Both green lights remain on and unchanged. No beeping. When I plug the UPS back in the power is restored, no sound and no beeping.

As I said earlier, this has been occurring since the day I got the warning that the battery was of a certain age.

I guess this problem can't be resolved by APC. That means this piece of equipment needs to be thrown out. Buying a battery and having it do nothing would mean wasting the money to buy the battery. Not a very flattering end result I'm afraid.

i am assuming this is not the case but i'll just mention it.

what outlets do you have your computer plugged into? you didnt recently move them did you? they should be connected to the battery back up + surge outlets. is the master outlet controlled feature on or off? instructions on enabling or disabling this can be found in the user's guide: http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/KBOK-766PMZ_R2_EN.pdf

also, how long as you unplugging the unit from the wall for before reconnecting it to the wall?

I'd like to thank everyone that tried to help with this problem. It started about a year ago, I've consulted this forum and APC twice about it, without results. Last night my power went off and my OS was corrupted for the upt-teenth time, so it is in the garbage now (battery is being recycled).

I don't believe that APC purposely produces UPS's that disable themselves when the battery replacement warning (based on age of battery, not battery condition) comes on, but this one did. I do believe that APC knows this happens sometimes though and for some reason won't admit it. That's the only explanation for there being no explanation for the behavior. They've tried blaming the OCZ power supplies, but I've switched them out and it still happened. So anyway, now the saga is over, and again, thanks.
