Battery Maintenance

Hello!

Just got a new UPS ES 550G. Seems to work perfectly. I've noticed that there is nothing anywhere about battery maintenance. I've always thought it was a good idea for any battery to at first, charge it fully, then drain it, and repeat this at least 3 times to ensure maximum charge.

Then, periodically, (once/month or so) drain/charge it again.

Is this not a requirement for a UPS system?

Thanks to both posters for good quick answers. I could only pick one as the 'correct' answer, but both were right on. The provided link filled in the gaps. I just wish the instructions were more clear on this since I did a run-time test twice in 2 days. APC cautions against doing this more than twice/year! Hopefully, not too much damage was done. ...
