Backup XS900 - Fan has become very loud

This is the second unit I've had with the same issue. For the first year the fan is dead silent, now the fan noise is unbearable. I assume this is not something that can be replaced by the end user. Do new models come with fans that can last longer than 1 year without getting so loud?
