Backup UPS 300 not working

I have an older UPS 300 which we took out of use and tried to them us it again. We forgot to unhook the battery. So we bought a new one. I installed it and can not get the unit to work. I plugged it in and it beeps for a few seconds and then proceeds to beep every 5 seconds or so. I hit the reset on the back and no difference. The light on the front does not turn green or any other color it just proceeds to beep every 5 seconds.
I have the same model that we took off line for a few days. I plugged into the same plug to make sure it wasn't the plug. The second one is fine and charging, and ready to use.
What am I missing?
