Hi, I'm new to using a APC Back-UPS unit, and in reviewing the installation instructions I noticed that it shows in a diagram not to locate the UPS less than 30cm from the monitor.
The question that came to my mind: is it okay to locate the UPS next to the CPU? I have very limited floor space and plan to put the UPS and my CPU tower on a two-shelf rolling cart beside my desk. This set up will allow me to clear up precious desk space, but I don't want to risk any damage or data loss to my computer.
I hope this isn't a silly question!
Thanks for your help and advice.

The UPS' transformers and inductors produce a magnetic field that can distort a CRT display. This isn't a problem for CPUs and LCD displays.

Shouldn't come across any problems. I've had my PC next to my Back-UPS for almost 2 years. The key issue is the monitor due to electromagnetic interference.

Cyndiwise:
When you place the UPS next to the CPU / PC tower make sure you don't put it so close that any ventilation holes in the UPS cabinet are blocked (the same could be said about your cpu (some have side air intake/discharge now).
Most UPS's need a little space around them (3") for proper cooling. This will extend the life of the batteries significantly.
