My power went off for more than six minutes. For blackouts the Back-UPS XS 1400U reports 0 "unit switched" and no time on battery. It does however report 6 minutes 41 seconds on battery for electrical noise. The power was definitely off-off. No room lights, no cordless phone, no radio.
I wouldn't care particularly, but the UPS didn't initiate a shutdown like it was meant to. Could there be a connection?

Today I had another blackout lasting a minute or more. This time it was reported as a blackout.
Either the UPS reports the first thing it notices and doesn't update, or Powerchute doesn't react to changing status as the situation develops. If there is noise preceding the blackout it is reported as mere noise even if it turns into a six-minute blackout.
I still don't know why the six minute incident didn't cause Powerchute to command a shutdown after two minutes like (I thought) I had configured. I don't think it should matter what the cause was; time on battery is all that matters. I am sure the blackout/noise distinction is irrelevant.
I guess I am going to have to contrive a test when it's convenient.

Hi Roy,
It is certainly possible for the UPS to turn off prior to the Graceful Unattended Shutdown being initiated, that is if the unit has older batteries. Although the unit is giving you nearly 7mins of estimated run-time in the interface, the true capability of the UPS will not be know until it actually transfers to battery power. In addition, could you please provide the exact model and serial number for this unit. The "1400U" leads me to believe you may have a Smart-UPS and not a Back-UPS.

Model: Back-UPS XS 1400U
Serial number: 3B1640X12436
Firmware revision: 926.T2.I
Software version: PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.2
Date of last manual self-test: 10/02/2017
Result of last manual self-test: Passed
RAM: 15.95 GB
Free disk space: 4436.36 GB
I should also clarify that the UPS did not shut down before Powerchute initiated the graceful shutdown. The power was restored after six and a half minutes and the battery was still going strong at more than 50%. But I had Powerchute configured to start the shutdown after two minutes on battery. So really I am wondering if it wasn't getting the right information from the UPS because the UPS hadn't recognized there was no AC. It was calling it "noise".
