APC BX1000G-CA Suddenly Died

This afternoon my UPS suddenly died. Pressing the reset button does nothing. Anything else to do to force reset? The unit to totally unresponsive. Have unplugged and plugged into different circuit and also checked old circuit. Both those circuits test fine. Thanks.

Hi,

I have the identical problem and when I searched online it led me to this discussion thread.  My unit is also BX1000G and my serial number is 3B1030X05065.  I noticed that my computer had attempted to restart on two different mornings.  Then today everything was completely shutdown and there is no power on the APC unit.  I tested the outlet and it is working.  I need a fast solution.  There was no power outage or issue; it just stopped working.  Can you tell me how old the unit is and whether I need to consider upgrade replacement and the cost.

Thank you,

Julie

Hello Michael,

I am sorry that you are experiencing issues with your APC UPS.

Do you know the serial number for this UPS? It will tell me how old the UPS is. Also, have you ever changed the battery?

Typically with older batteries, what will happen is that a power outage, or even a power disturbance, the UPS will go on battery, and the battery will drain completely. Since these UPSs need a good battery to turn on, the UPS will no longer turn on.

Since you eliminated a bad outlet, this is probably the issue.

You can also disconnect the UPS from input power, and try to start it off the battery, by holding in the on button until a second beep. If it doesnt start on battery, then the battery probably needs to be replaced.

Thanks,
Shanon

Hi Shanon. Serial number is 381032X52500. Diagnostics were indicating battery backup was still good. Yesterday with no apparent external influences the UPS just shut off. I can't get it to respond to any buttons. Cheers, Mike

After decoding the serial number, I saw that this UPS is about 7 years old, which is actually pretty good for having been on the original battery. The battery has most likely expired and needs to be replaced. The replacement battery is  APCRBC123

That being said, these units typically have a lifespan of 6-10 years, so it might be time to think about replacing this UPS. We have a TradeUps program that you would qualify for and we would get you a significant discount off a new UPS, as well as us pay for shipping to recycle the old UPS. You can contact sales at 800 800 4272 and someone would gladly help.

Thanks,
Shanon

Thanks for the information. Not decided what I'll do. Might try replacing battery.
