Hello everyone.
I've recently replaced my battery in Back-UPS ES 700 after several months when I used the UPS only as surge protection with the dead battery inside.
When I finally removed the old battery and connected the new one, I noticed that the PowerChute reported Estimated Battery Time 3 min, all after letting the battery fully charge.
In order to test it, I unplugged the UPS and immediately the PowerChute shown its prepare for hibernation dialog with 10 or so seconds remaining, I cancelled that.
Within 5 or 6 seconds, everything went black, the UPS started to scream (constant beep) and it smelled like something burning (reminded me of painting with temperas in the school years ago).
So I turned turned the UPS off, disconnected all stuff from it and tried again with a simple lamp.
It managed to run for a whole minute until it died again.
I replaced the battery again from an identical UPS which I knew could run on battery for more than 5 minutes.
Guess what, it died after 2 seconds, then after 1 second and now it can't even run without any load (constant beep) while unplugged.
I must say that the previous (new) battery works in the other unit just fine.
Performing brain dead didn't work for me.
How do I fix this aside from buying a new UPC?
Thanks for any help.
