Hi all -- I'm new here and hope someone can help. I can't find the RJ45/USB interface cable that came with my ES 500VA-CN (actual product name BE500u-CN according to the box). I know I can buy one from APC but the price is a bit dear. I've seen some "AP9827" / 940-0127A / 940-0127B / 940-0127? cables for sale on eBay that the sellers claim will work for the be500u just like the original one, but these cables don't have the black cylindrical shaped part that sits near the rj45 end --- is it important? what does it do? And is the correct part # 940-127A or 940-127B or does the letter at the end even matter (they all seem to look the same).
Also, there are some ethernet/rj45/usb adapters for sale at places like Best Buy that look like they might work, but not being a techie I don't know for sure: e.g. a RJ45 10p10c male > USB make adpater -- will this work if I connect it to a USB extension cable? Another adapter I've seen is a USB male > RJ45 female -- will this work if I connect it to a spare ethernet cable?
One more question -- is the BE500u-CN compatible with Windows 8 64-bit?
Many thanks for your help!

Hi imaginator,
The AP9827 is the same as 940-0127, the letter after 0127 is our way to track the revision that was done on the cable. With regards to the black cylindrical shape that you see, it is what we call as ferrite bead that prevents interference such as EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference). With regards to the adapters, it would be best if you stick with the APC recommended cables. I haven't had any experience working with these adapters, let see if we have other users who have used this setup.
In your question about the Windows 8 compatibility, it shows that our PowerChute Personal Edition is compatible with the 64-bit operating system.
