i have had this unit for a couple years and just replaced the battery. all had worked excellent and i have been very happy w/ the unit,
i changed the battery and gave it a good charge, connected my computer to it and all seemed good. then i did my test of pulling the plug from the wall of the ups. the computer stays on but the ups makes a weird, very weak beep and also loses the comm link between the computer and itself. i have tried this w/ and w/out the powerchute software just using windows - both see it until there is a wall outage and then no more communication, but again, the computer stays on.
the ups will continue to make this weird beep until i reboot the computer.
any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a brand new battery, so i would like to get a few years out of it.
the enviornment is on a pice of wood w/ air around it - to the touch doesn't get very warm - never has. are these units affected by any network cable or anything? i have a back up ns 1250 w/ lcd and it does not have any issues.
please help, i would like for the machine that is on the smaller ups be able to safely power down in the event that i leave it on and not be here when the power goes offf.

anything purchased before 2006 had a 2 year warranty and everything since then has a 3 year warranty.
the battery you just purchased, if a geniune APC RBC, has a 1 year warranty but the UPS would be out of warranty unfortunately if a replacement is required.

hi,
definitely sounds strange!
i'd recommend that you reset the unit if you can by disconnecting the battery again for a minute or two, then reconnecting it to test it again.
if that doesnt work, i dont think there is much else you can try to be honest. it sounds damaged. if the unit is within warranty, (which you can post the first several digits of the serial number and we can tell you if it is or not), i'd suggest contacting APC support for a replacement. if its out of warranty, you can look into the APC trade UPS program or obtaining a replacement a different way.

maybe i have had this a bit longer than i thought...
i hit the battery info from the windows interface and it reports this:
Unique ID: JB030903xxxxxxx APCBackUPS ES 500 FW: 2.e2D USB
Date Manf: 02/27/2003
should have probably looked at this before i replaced the battery. i will try the disconnecting of the batt to see if that helps...
how long are the warranties?
