I recently had to run my house of of a generac generator and noticed both my UPS would switch from on/of battery. Later I checked and found my generator is running at 63HZ. My question does this cause any harm to the UPS's from the constance switching... or should I adjust mr generator RPM to get the HZ closer to 60HZ? BTW generator voltage stays around 120v except for when my well pump kicks on.

Thanks for the quick reply. My gen unit is rated for 5500w with surge of 6875w. The owners manual states "Maintains steady voltage - great for use with sensitive electronics." I'm going to do some research about adjusting the RPM slightly lower which should correct the cycles/second(HZ) issue. More on this later.

In case if you are not able to adjust the Generator frequency, set the UPS sensitivity to Low and see if it corrects the situation. The Low Sensitivity would allow the unit to be more tolerant of voltage distortion and, therefore, make less transfer to battery.

As far as I understood, the Back-UPS 1300 was not compatible with generators. You need to get a line interactive unit, something like the Smart UPS 1000. The Smart UPS series are generator compatible.
