BR700G & XP Pro
I have several XP Pro boxes on my network and have recently had issues where they cannot communicate with my newer UPS units.
I've been replacing my older (serial port communications) models with newer (usb communications) models for several years now and I only have problems with the BR700G.
When I hook up a BR700G unit to an XP Pro box the native power management app will not communicate with the UPS although it is recognized by the app as an APC Back-Ups Pro.
I've tried installing Powerchute (2.2 & 3.0) but the installer quits and says it can't find a connected UPS.

You bet, this is not a very issue but I do hope that we could find a way to get it working.

Hi Matt,
Is this UPS undetected on all XP boxes that you have there? Have you also tried different cables?

3 out of 3 attempts have failed to achieve communications, I haven't attempted it on any of my other XP boxes as they all have a different model UPS attached and communicating.
The only cable I've tried is the USB / phone jack cable supplied with the UPS units (what else would work?).

With regards to the cable, I was hoping that you've tried swapping cables from a working UPS into this non-working UPS. I hope that you could try this on other XP boxes, we'd like to rule out that it is not a cable nor a computer issue but the UPS itself.

Well at this point I'm thinking I've tried 3 different units with 3 different cables on three different boxes with one consistent result.
The UPS is recognized but the communications link is not established.

Some other things worth checking:
Make sure that the USB drivers are up to date.
Uninstall/re-install the APC device from device manager.
Make sure that hidparse, hidclass and hidusb drivers/files are present on your XP box.
Ensure that the Native UPS service is running properly.
Restart the Native UPS service.

Thank you JonPro for all of your responses.
I'm going to identify a known good cable and try that.
I had already tried the device manager and UPS service routes.
But only on the first box, I'll try them again.
I'll also look into the driver issues as you suggested.
Given my consistent failures with this combination I was hoping this would be a known issue.
It's never that easy is it?
Thanks again.
