BR1500G keeps cycling the battery charge icon between full and empty
I purchased a used BR1500G recently with reported new battery, and I plugged it in to charge for the first time yesterday. After leaving it for around 8 hours to charge, I checked on it and discovered the battery icon was regularly switching between full charge and no charge every couple of seconds, with an audible click each time it switched. Any ideas what the issue might be?

It appears the so called new battery isn’t very new! 🙁 You can get some basic information from the battery as to when it was made. This only tells you when it was manufactured and not how long it sat on a shelf or when it was installed and used / abused.
If you’re curious and have some time and a multimeter you can get an idea of the battery health.
- Battery: Remove the battery and measure the voltage. If it shows below 11.XX VDC the battery is empty. Any cell that shows <10.XX VDC is garbage now.
If the battery shows at least 12.XX VDC you can try to recharge it with third party charger. If the battery is in decent shape once charging is complete and allowed to rest unconnected to anything. The measured voltage should hover around 13.XX VDC for several weeks. If on the other hand the voltage drops below 12.00 - 12.40 VDC after a few hours / days this tells you the cell is end of life.
You can easily confirm by placing the battery back into the UPS. If the self test fails that says the battery is garbage. If the self test passes but once you place a small load on the UPS with AC power removed and the UPS turns off / gives you only seconds of runtime - It’s garbage.
