BK650EI power consumption in off mode

Hi there. I used to have two BK650MI connected to two pc’s of my LAN. Some weeks ago I realized by chance (losing my work) than one of this units was faulty (this old model doesn’t make a self test at start-up). It’s so that I substituted the faulty unit with a brand new BK650EI.

This new model is fine, however I was disappointed measuring that the power consumption in off/idle mode (i.e. when powered off, with nothing connected to the always-on line, and with the battery fully charged) has worsened to an average of 3.5W, while the old model has a dissipation of only 1.8W in this condition!

APC claims that the new models are more efficient that the old ones, perhaps this is true in battery mode, but, in all evidence, this is not true, at least for this unit, when it is in off/idle mode.

I strongly encourage APC engineers to pay attention to this aspect too in future designs.

As a turnaround to this problem, I will probably add a switch, to completely power off the unit, at least at night. Is there any reason not to do so?
