BE750G Randomly Drops Communication with PC. Event Log Posted

I purchased a BE750G last week, and it has been working beautifully except for the fact that it will randomly drop communication with the PC for a few seconds at a time. I dont have to be anywhere near the PC for it to drop communication. I could be laying in my bed, staring at my monitor, and the bubble will randomly pop up saying it can't connect with the battery backup. And I really mean randomly. I could be surfing the web, watching a video, doing nothing, and the bubble with sound pops up. Has nothing to do with sleep mode or anything since I have that all disabled, and it whether I am on the pc or just let it idle, it just happens. It gets very annoying since every time that error comes up, it also plays the windows default sound. I have spoken to tech support and they have shipped me a new USB to RJ-45 cable (still on route to my house) which may be the problem, but what if the problem still persists even with the new cable? Could it be anything else? Here is a copy of my even log. The long gaps of time where you don't see the error, is when my PC is turned off. Thank you all in advance.

Things are looking up!!

Have had a number of emails back & forth from Kevin (El Notorious K), who has graciously taken ownership of my issue. Seems as if some previous RMA's (for the BE750BB) were either canceled or never entered into the APC system. Kevin, thanks for your prompt and straightforward handling of this situation; I was almost @ the point of purchasing from a competitor, and your prompt professionalism has forestalled that.

Looking forward to receipt of the replacement tomorrow, and I'll post up the results as soon as known.

I set mine on the two red and I amber lit by pushing the power button for 10 sec and then setting the lites which is the most sensitive and I have it going on back up about 4-8 times a day because the power is real bad in this neck of the woods and I have let it there net time i shut down I might try it on the center or default position batter is a little heavy and hard to hook up but glad it worked out for you these is a very nice unit.Thanks once again to APC and NK enjoy Roy

All is Well in the land of Battery Back-Up

I've had the new unit in place since yesterday evening, and NO MORE interrupted communication messages!! Many thanks to Kevin for his expediting and finally getting this resolved.

Too bad about the glitches in the BE 750G units; they have some excellent features. I trust that the APC engineers will suss it out, given time.

So what's the verdict on this device, the BE750G? I really need a unit with the master/controlled sockets capability, since I have a speaker system connected to my PC whose power switch is in the back of the subwoofer and hard to get at. So having a power strip that automatically controls power to that based on the PC turning on and off would be great.

I was all set to pop out and purchase this device, when I stumbled onto this thread. Now I'm not sure if Vista is going to have trouble communicating to this UPS if I pick one up. Or are most good and only a few having problems?

Right now, I would say it's going to be hit or miss. If you do so, there's a small chance you may have the same intermittent communication error as the other 2. However, I will not go on the record and say yes or no.

Is there any data yet that points to a hardware problem with the UPS, versus a software problem? Naturally I'm figuring that if it feels like a software problem so far, that's a safer investment since a future release of the software might be able to fix this. But if it's a hardware issue that would be a harder problem to correct later, if at all.

Probably a tough question, just looking for any other info that can be shared.

I am not an engineer so I can't say here nor there hardware/software side. We've seen instances it in Tech Support (much lower tier than Engineering) of Native working, PCPE not. Some instances of neither working. So right now, it's trial and error.

As an APC employee running vista on my personal acer pc at home, this beta 2.2 has resolved the issue for me. I used to get the lost comm issue many times a day. no more.

There is now a patch available for Powerchute Personal Edition 2.0 for Windows 2000/XP to help resolve the "unable to communicate with APC battery back up" with mainly the BE750G UPS but you can try it with any model.

h3. You {color:#ff0000}must{color} have Powerchute Personal Edition 2.0 for 2000/XP installed {color:#ff0000}+prior+ {color}to installing this patch. If you need to download that, [click here|ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public%20/software/windows/xp/pcpe/200/PowerChutePersonalEdition.exe]. *That is the English version.
Again, this patch is for Windows XP (or Windows 2000) ONLY. It will not work with Windows Vista. Please check out the [prior post above from myself|http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/5423/matrix-smartcell-battery...] for information on that. You need to contact APC Support for the Vista version because the Vista file is a full version of Powerchute and is too large to post here.

I used to suffer from the constant "unable to communicate" popups.
There is a program called USBDeview that will solve this popup deal until it decides to resurface again.

Just unplug the cable to the UPS
Open the program
Find the UPS on the list (Name should be model, Description should be American Power Conversion USB)
Right click on it and hit uninstall.
Then just plug the cable back in and problem solved.
Takes 10 seconds at most.

Edit: Your settings are saved, just reinstalls the driver for the device.

I purchased a BE750G last week, and it has been working beautifully except for the fact that it will randomly drop communication with the PC for a few seconds at a time. I dont have to be anywhere near the PC for it to drop communication. I could be laying in my bed, staring at my monitor, and the bubble will randomly pop up saying it can't connect with the battery backup. And I really mean randomly. I could be surfing the web, watching a video, doing nothing, and the bubble with sound pops up. Has nothing to do with sleep mode or anything since I have that all disabled, and it whether I am on the pc or just let it idle, it just happens. It gets very annoying since every time that error comes up, it also plays the windows default sound. I have spoken to tech support and they have shipped me a new USB to RJ-45 cable (still on route to my house) which may be the problem, but what if the problem still persists even with the new cable? Could it be anything else? Here is a copy of my even log. The long gaps of time where you don't see the error, is when my PC is turned off. Thank you all in advance.
