BE700G-GR (the green version of Back-UPS ES 700 ) shuts down when USB connected device shuts down, even when Master enable is set to off.
When I set my USB connected device (NAS) to auto shutdown after e.g. 60 seconds in case of a power failure, the power to all other connected devices is cut off also. Master enable is set to off. As a result, I can not use my connected modem/router anymore (for working on my battery powered laptop).
(I have read somewhere that it is designed this way?)
Any help?

Hi,
I hesitated opening a new thread, and though I try it out here, as It may complete the topic with another config.
I'm facing exact same behavior with a BR900G-FR UPS. At the time a power outage occurs, after shutting down the PC connected to master power outlet according to configuration, the UPS itself shuts down after 1-2 mins, disabling the modem.
From my several readings, I understand it could be related to some native OS behavior that also commands the UPS to shutdown. This PC is windows based (WHS 2011, afaik, based on W2008 Server).Feeling stupid as well, I can't figure out whether this is actually the case or not. Anyone knowing which param or service is responsible for this and how to configure it properly ?
Btw : trying several options, I finally worked it around by removing PowerChute Personal & reverting to HID UPS driver instead of APC UPS (thanks to here & here). By doing this (and assuming hibernate is turned on -> cmdline powercfg -h on ) one can configure the PC to hibernate when switching to battery (power outage, UPS is seen as a laptop's battery)

Hi Henkgg,
I would assume that NAS is connected on the Master Outlet. BackUPS ES "G" unit is designed for power consumption. If the connected device went off or if there is no/low power being drawn from the master outlet, all else on the "Controlled by Master" outlet will shut off or will not turn.
When you turn off the Master Button, try turning off and then turn the unit back on, then observe if the your equipment on the controlled by master outlet will still shut off.
Please let us know.

One possibility is that your NAS is telling the UPS to shut down via USB. Some NASes ship with APCUPSd which, by default, will "killpower" to the UPS after it shuts the computer (or in this case, the NAS) off. If that's the case, then if the manufacturer hasn't built-in a way to disable killpower, you might have to get a root shell and modify the shutdown scripts.

Both: thanks.
@juangele: Master enable is set to off. I even tested with the NAS connected to another outlet than Master. Same behaviour.
@voidstar: Your answer sounds plausible to me. However, being a Linux novice I am reluctant to change config files without knowing exactly what I am doing.
Anyway, I have chosen to shut down the NAS (Synology DS210j) on the 'low battery' UPS signal. Other connected devices will not get much power after that anyway.
When I am working at home, the on battery beeping will warn me. Depending on my needs at that moment I can choose to power down the NAS (manually) to save power for the router.
EDIT 2011/04/30 Problem solved, in fact there wasn't a problem. The Synology option (in the GUI) 'shutdown UPS when the system enters safe mode' was enabled. Disabling this solved it (I feel stupid).

It is good to hear that you got it to worked. This would be a good resource for future customers who might be using the same kind of setup. Thank you very much for giving us a feedback.
