BE650Y-IN Battery charge dipping suddenly........

Hi, I had purchased a BE650Y-IN 8 months back. I have powerchute personal edition 2.0 installed on my system running on windows xp sp3. Typical load of my system does not go beyond 160 watts. I have set powerchute to hibernate the system when the backup time left is 5 minutes. For the past 3-4 months i had been facing an issue with my UPS. Sometimes, when a power outage occured, powerchute hibernated the pc within a minute or two. I contacted APC support and they asked me to charge the UPS for 8-10 hrs daily. I did it but faced the same issue again during an outage. I contacted APC again and they replaced my UPS yesterday with a refurbished one. I charged the new UPS for around 8 hrs and ensured that powerchute showed 100% battery charge. After this i did a test myself by turning the main power on and off for three times at an interval of around 2 minutes each.

When i turned off the main power for the third time, i noticed in powerchute that the charge on the battery dipped all of a sudden to 8% from around 80% causing powerchute to hibernate the pc again and so the problem still persists.

Please help and advice if this is a problem with the UPS or if this is a software related issue. I am already upset about having my fresh looking UPS replaced with a refurbished one with a couple of scratches here and there.

Well during the past 3-4 months, room temperature here must have varied from 10 deg celcius to around 20 deg celcius. I don't face very frequent and long outages here. Maximum frequency can be once in 5 days and that to for just 10 minutes.

Hi Clarkson, i have tried upgrading to PCPE 3.0, thinking that it might be a software comunication issue but it hasn't helped.

Today i encountered the same problem when an outage occured. This outage has occured after around 10 days. When my PC is turned off, the UPS is always charging, it means that the UPS charges for atleast 10 Hrs daily. When the outage occured today, PCPE immediately started hibernating the PC due to a sudden dip in the battery charge. I cancelled the hibernation and the PC kept running on battery and PCPE now started showing 88% battery charge and 20 mins runtime.

I think its a software issue and PCPE reports wrong battery runtime sometimes and assumes that the battery charge has dipped below 5% when infact the battery charge is good enough to run the PC for 20 mins.

Please help......

Shutdown my computer when the time left on battery backup power is 5 mins.

Also i was going through the release notes of PCPE 3.0 and read there that if SP3 is installed on windows xp after installing PCPE then one should re install PCPE other wise the software can malfunction.

Have done this, will test the system now.
