Back-UPS Pro 900 (BR900GI)

We've jut acquired a APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 900, 230V UPS. I'm reviewing the UPS on behalf of our customer. The most critical test I have to perform is the Power Saving feature. During test the UPS reacted strangely. Here's what I did.

(1) I connect my PC and Monitor to the Master Outlets, plugged in AC input and power up the UPS.

(2) I enabled the Power Saving Function, shutdown my PC and then configure the threshold. settings.

(3) Next, with my PC powered up, I switch off AC input and after about 60 seconds, the UPS cut output power & goes to sleep/standby mode.

I was planning to manually shutdown my PC and time how long it will continue to drain the batt when there's no load.
When I switch on AC input, the UPS wakes up and supply output power.

On the status screen, it showed I still have 30 minutes runtime and my total load is 110Watts. Powerchute and comm cable was not installed / connected, so it's definitely not due to software. What went wrong ?

If you have a software configured or installed, it will monitor the state of the UPS and if it runs On Battery the software would command the PC to either hibernate or shutdown. Once the hibernation or shutdown finishes it will then tell the UPS to sleep or turn off.

What operating system were you using? If it is a Microsoft base OS, have you checked if the Native UPS option is configured and or if the PC would sleep/hibernate when it is On Battery just like a regular laptop?

Hi Jon,

Apparently, that ups battery is not at optimal condition. I opened up another unit and it did not show such problem.

However, I would like to understand the Power Saving terminology of Back UPS Pro.

When power saving feature is enabled (as indicated by the leaf icon) with AC source present it worked just fine by cutting output to the controlled outlets. However, it doesn't seemed to do that when running on batteries. Even when devices connected to the Master outlet had shutdown, the UPS continues to discharge it's batteries. Why doesn't it go to sleep mode ? I've also noticed that during battery mode, the leaf icon disappears.

Is this the way it's suppose to work ?
