I had a strange issue the other day and now my BE600M1 will not function properly and has a constant alarm when turned on. I turned on my vacuum in another room on an outlet that is apparently on the same circuit as the UPS, and everything connected to the UPS immediately turned off and the continuous alarm started. I disconnected everything from the UPS and powered it back on, but again received the alarm. I unplugged the UPS from the wall and turned on it so it ran off battery, and again, continuous alarm. The power LED initially flashes green 16 times, but once the alarm begins, there are no LEDs.
I performed the Brain-Dead reset by unplugging the UPS, removing the battery, and holding the power button, but that did not resolve the issue.
I have since connected the UPS to my PC and as soon as I turn it on, Power Chute alerts that the UPS is overloaded and to remove equipment that is plugged in to the battery, but NOTHING is plugged into the UPS. I've attempted to run a self-test, but receive a message that Power Chute is unable to run a self-test. Once the UPS is powered off, Power Chute says the battery is operating normally.
The Status page shows the following:
- Power Supplied by: AC Utility
- Energy/Usage Rate: 0 kWh per day
- Remaining Charge: 100%
- Last Transfer to Battery: None recorded
- Result of last self-test: Not recorded
- Input voltage: 118 volts
- Load on battery backup: 0
Based on these things, I have a feeling a surge killed the UPS itself and that replacing the battery would not resolve the issue. Any ideas?

Based on all of the excellent information and testing performed by you it appears the unit is damaged and needs to be replaced.
The unit is covered by a three year warranty based on the purchase date so please confirm when you purchased the unit with your receipt.
If you no longer have the receipt than the warranty is based on the production serial number and you may use this APC Warranty Checker:
https://www.apc.com/us/en/support/product-support/ups-factory-warranty-information.jsp
If the system is under warranty submit a RMA with APC Technical Support providing the serial number, receipt, and error code / fault description.
If the system is not under warranty you may consider using the APC Trade-UPS Program to receive a modest discount on the next UPS that’s under consideration:
