BACK-UPS ES 550... after about 3 years, battery would fully discharge after about 1 minute, and was beeping that the battery needed to be replaced, software told me the same.
Bought a new BACK-UPS ES 550 (same model name but newer version).. Did not re-install the software since it seemed to work just fine and it was the same model, and now the software is saying that the battery time is below the minimum recommended level. (2 minutes). The battery seems to be working fine.
Is my battery defective, or is there a way to reset the software data?
Software is Personal Edition 3.0. (Windows 7 64 bit)

The software for the Personal Edition (at least the version I have) does not provide that information.
I'm not so much worried about how much runtime I get, as I am about how much runtime I get in comparison to how much I am supposed to get. I want to make sure my battery is working as advertised. The main goal is to protect the hardware in the event of electrical noise, brownouts, and blackouts. Being able to use the system during a power outage is of no concern to me.
When I filled in the power usage questionaire on the site according to my system, it suggested a 1500 VA UPS lasting 13 minutes at 70% load, so 5 minutes for a 550 VA UPS does seem to make sense.
(and the 1500 VA was $550, compared to the $50 I paid for the 550 VA)

I just tested the battery by turning it off. It went to about 50% remaining charge in about 2-3 minutes. Is that normal for a 550 VA UPS? My computer uses a 700W power supply.
I have 2 ATI Radeon 4850s (6 pin for each)
4 Hard drives
1 Optical Drive
a fairly cheap processor and motherboard
5-6 case fans.
8 gb DDR 2 ram.
I can provide more information if needed to make a diagnosis.
