What would be the safest and most efficient way of gathering actual wattage consumption of a server in a rack?

I found my own answer. For about $44 I can purchase "Kill-A-Watt EZ Plug Power Meter". This gives me the ability to monitor watts, amps etc. I just plug this in-line with my server. Thanks.
