DO NOT connect utility power to the battery terminals. If your UPS is still usable, this will be a sure fire way to destroy it beyond economical repair. You need around 24v DC at battery terminals before the unit will ok power on. So, without knowing the voltage of your Best UPS battery pack, there's no way to tell where the problem is.
With your level of skills, I do not recommend messing with it. At best, you'll destroy the UPS. At worst, you'd be in the ER or explaining to the insurance company why your house caught on fire.

Hi,
Based on what you're describing, it seems you may have a 3rd Generation Smart-UPS. I'm guessing the part number may be something like SU1000NET or SU1000. These generation UPS's require a sufficient battery voltage to be present in order to bring the UPS online. Which explains why it would see the BEST battery as the
"sufficient" charge temporarily, until the battery discharges immediately due to size. When was the last time that the battery within the UPS was replaced?
