APC battery backup turning off beeping noise?

I'm not sure at all what model the backup battery i have is but it is made by APC and it says 500 on the front of it. I was wondering if there was a way i can get it to stop beeping every 30 seconds or so when its unpluged from an outlet. Because i would kinda like to use it as a battery. So is there any way i can get it to stop beeping at least until it is about to die

Most UPS's have the ability to stop the beeping using the Powerchute Personal Edition Software. The easiest way to check, is to install the software and check under Configuration>Notification. This is a setting that is stored on the UPS EEPROM so you can remove the software after making the change. Windows is the only OS that would support this change in the software as other OS's like Mac OS do not have the ability to make the change.

Depends on the model. If the outlets are on the back, look near the power cord for the model number.

If the outlets are on the top, look on the bottom. and sides.

Hello,

Look for the little white sticker, that looks like a bar code. You should see two letters, either BE, BK, BF, or BR followed by some numbers. If you can find that number I could help you see if theres a way to stop the beeping.

It also says output model 500: 120V 4.2A,60 Hz, 300W right underneath that first one. Then under neath that it says total output current 12A.
So i hope that helps

Have you tried disabling via software? From this pic, it should work with this UPS.

There are no software/firmware downloads for this model except PowerChute Personal Edition. I couldn't tell if you were looking for a firmware upgrade on the UPS or the PowerChute software. You'll want to look under http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm and try the Filter by Software/Firmware and choose Software Upgrades - PowerChute Personal Edition. I think you can download that software as a "guest" and don't need to register.

As far as I know on this unit, you cannot disable the on battery beeper via pushing the buttons. Any alarms you could disable would be via PowerChute software. Please note, you cannot disable critical alarms typically like low battery mode or replace battery. The only one you can usually disable is the on battery (4 beeps every 30 seconds).

Hello,

I have this unit, and even though I did set the "no beeps" using the PowerChute, I got awoken several times in the middle of the night by the super loud continuous buzzer.

Is it really not possible to disable these sounds without removing the piezo directly?

Powerchute Personal Edition is software that you download to your computer. You need to make sure that the Back UPS you own communicates over USB. Before installing the software, you need to make sure that the USB cable is connected from your Back UPS to your computer. As long as its connected, you can download the software, install it, and once installed, you may have the ability to disable the beeper.

You can download the software from the following link.

http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/software_comp.cfm?sw_sku=SFPCPE20&id=129&family=&part_num=&swfam=...

I wanted to install an APC Back-UPS ES 500 in my living room and didn't want the APC to ever beep because the kids' rooms are right above.  I took apart my APC, found the piezo-electric beeper and removed it from the circuitboard.  I have written up all the details on how to complete this hack on my blog at: John Fixes Stuff: How to Permanently Disable the Beeping Alarm on an APC Back-UPS ES 500 Battery Bac...

Please allow me to join this question.

It is about my APC BACK UPS BE550G-GR (according to label on device)

with ES 550 & 700 user manual attached to this device when shipped. I can tell the SN if needed in a PM.

Will it be possible to disable the addressed sound for this model in the way described in this discussion?

The APC support side for my country, country of purchase and use for this device does not show BE550 nor ES550

model on the product list of software & firmware downloads.

The APC software download side asks me to register with APC in order to be able doing the download.

No download possible without had to be registered in the fact?
