My APC UPS recently went into the Overload condition with solid red LED and solid alert tone. There was only one device (a router) being powered at the time the alert happened. I powered off the UPS, unplugged the UPS, and then held the On button until the second tone placing the UPS in battery on state. The device went on battery with no error. I tried this several times with no error. I then powered on the PC and went into the APC software and ran the self tests. The tests ran fine with no further error. Could this overload error just have been a false alarm or is it a sign something might be failing? Thanks.

I'd probably just keep an eye on it. It is hard to say. I find it hard to believe myself also that the router somehow overloaded the UPS but I can't say for sure. But, what you did (a braindead) would effectively clear any alarms until the reason it happened last time comes up again. These units don't have too many diagnostics on them unless you have one with an LCD that can show a fault code. It sounds like you have the older model with just LEDs and we have to work off of them.
If you use PowerChute Personal Edition connected to a PC via USB, it could also maybe catch something if it happens again but I can't guarantee that depending on what caused the problem and if it were to happen again.
