APC Battery Backup Model: BGE90M

My APC model BGE90M started a steady beep about 2:20 A.M. When I went in to check it was emitting a pulsating red light. All the lights on the modem were on. I shut the on/off button on the backup for a second and then pressed it again. The solid green light came on and has remained on and the modem rebooted itself.

Can anyone advise me as to what the problem may be? The only piece of equipment plugged into the backup is the AT&T modem. So it's not overloading. None of the equipment is on.

Any advice would be appreciated.
