APC Backup-UPS ES 750G overload problem

I just bought an APC Backup-UPS ES 750G. I have a 500 Watt PSU.

The problem I'm running into is;

1. I get the lost communication bug frequently.

2. It gives me an overload message that interups whatever I may be doing.

I removed the parachute software, and while that got rid of #1, #2 has now turned into a constant solid beep.

When I had parachute installed I cheked the status of the APC. It said it was only pulling 370 Watts, nowhere near the 450 Watts it should supply.

Do I have a faulty UPS?

I guess I may need a bigger UPS, but if this one is overloading too soon there is no point keeping it for something else either.

As promised here I am to support this issue.

Do you have a Power Factor Corrected (PFC) Power Supply on the CPU? Does the overload occur EVER on battery (can you do a pull plug test to confirm this)? What other peripherals besides the CPU are on the Battery Backup + Surge Protection side of the UPS?

Well shortly after posting this, my PSU went nuclear. So I'm thinking that may have been part of it. I ended up plugging the PSU into the surge only section so I could play COD4 without hearing the constant tone. Then it blew up. LOL

Thankfully it isolated it to the PSU and didn't take anything with it. It did not have PFC as far as I know, it was an older Thermaltake.

As far as other items on battery, I have the computer, LCD monitor, and wireless mouse adapter. Everything else is on surge only.

I'm currently running on an old 450 watt and it's not overloading. But I can't stress it like I was before either. It would take around 30 minutes of COD4 before it would start screaming overload. And this temp PSU doesn't even have enough power leads to plug in my DVD, so I can't start COD4.

I have a Corsair 620HX no the way. It has the PFC and is rated 80+. I'll update this post and let you know if the new PSU overloads or not.

Ok, it would seem the PSU was the problem. With the new Corsair, I have no more overload problem. I can't be 100% sure since with the Corsair PSU, I'm not even pulling 300 watts now with both video cards running and all four cores. The overload was starting at around 350 watts.
