APC Back-UPS HS 500 Firmware and Config program?

Hello,

I have a APC Back-UPS HS 500 (BH500INET) that i just changed battery on, but when i now turned it on agin the clock is wrong and i logged in by the ehternet website config site, but cant update time and it says i should update firmware,

But on your site i cant download firmware or config tool?

Why is it not open for everyone that own a Ups to do that?

I can read that its to old for support but i should still be able to update to the firmware you have for it?

Have emailed the swedish site of schneider some days ago tho i havent got any response..

I know that its only possible to go by IE browser, but that dont even work anymore, Is it the same with other APC products or is it just this model? Its possible to got to /cfg.cgi but dont work good.. 😕

Going to buy a new but question is what brand if its this dificult to get firmware och config tool for APC.. 

Thought APC was a premium brand ?

I have never seen a APC Back-UPS Series have firmware available for the end user. You may use the latest APC Power Chute (PCSS) web based application to setup & access the unit:

You’ll need to create an APC / Schneider account first before you can download the software application.

As it relates to web access you may use Microsoft Edge with the legacy IE plug-in to access the unit. Insure you use HTTP and (NOT) HTTPS to access the internal webpage if applicable.

As for technical support I would suggest you use the North American *Chat* feature and request whatever firmware is available for this legacy hardware if available.

If you receive a copy please do share a link as I’m sure this will help the next person asking / needing the same.

Well i have tyed one of the programs that i had to login to download but that would not connect with the rj45 connection. 

Im going to buy something ells then i guess. 

Been trying to call the Swedish part of schnider but nothing..

I was so curious about this specific unit I pulled one out of cold storage. As noted you can access the internal webpage using Microsoft Edge with the IE compatibility legacy mode.

I logged in just fine and see Status, Configuration, Maintenance, About, Logout.

No where is there a field to enter a time. The Maintenance Tab is the only location to enter a battery replacement date.

So not sure what you mean by can’t update the time?!? On a related note this device has a massive security hole where you don’t need to enter the user name / password and can access & see all tabs except the Configuration page.

I accessed the internal webpage using Chrome, Fire Fox, Edge. You can ignore the (Not Found) message and just tap on the top banners.

Lastly, having read the paper manual and looking at the images. There aren’t very many extra options that are not available in the internal webpage such as assigning a Static IP / Name.

The software appears only to be a setup application but offers no ability to act like Power Chute software and allow the end user to define a graceful shutdown to any connected loads.

Its strictly a UPS and the ability to power cycle four outlets (IF) needed or required from a remote location.

Another strange and odd thing I noticed is that the white serial number on the housing doesn’t match the web interface at all?!?!

I checked ten others and every one of them are the same. Where the sticker is different from the web interface???

Regardless, this product is EOL and APC abandoned this hardware years ago even during the in service period! They never fixed this obvious security hole or provides any firmware to resolve any issues.

Which on balance as I stated earlier I’ve never seen a Back-UPS system have (User) field upgradeable firmware.
