Last night I plugged an electric heater into one of the 3 battery back up outlets on my UPS. After about 10 minutes all 3 stopped working. The other 3 outlets that are surge protection only still work. Another thing I have noticed is that every time I turn it on there is no power in those 3 outlets for the first 5-8 seconds, after that I hear a click and power comes on and after another 5-8 seconds I hear another click and the power is off and never comes back. The other 3 outlets work just fine.
Is there a fix for this?

It does not appear that I can reset the surge protection on my ES 500: the reset button just feel loose when I push it in.

These units have a built in circuit breaker, located at one side of the case. (I think it's near the location where the power cord enters the case.) Press the circuit breaker button to reset it. You should hear a click.
Subjecting one of these units to such a massive overload could destroy the inverter circuitry, possibly with rather exciting results. You should plug your heater directly into the wall outlet if possible (or use a heavy duty appliance grade extension cord if needed).

Unfortunately, the circuit breaker or even the entire UPS may have been destroyed by the overload. The built in circuit breakers are not the most robust things.

Hi,
Sounds like you damage the unit by overloading it. If your unit is 2 years old or less you should contact local technical support, explain the unit will not provide power through he battery outlets. They should offer a replacement. If the unit is out of warranty you have the option of trading it in for a new unit.
