I have a 550G with PowerChute Personal. Is there a way to get an indication that AC power is lost so that I could shut down critical software before the general shutdown occurs? I need a specific shutdown sequence and this would achieve that.
Thanks
Jim

This is perfect! I can now launch a little program which takes action based on Event Viewer.
BTW, this is really worth highlighting as a feature for PowerChute. Not everyone will be able to write a program (I won't) but I know someone who will and this will work nicely.
Thanks!

What way are you looking to get a notification?

If the 550G and software signaled as in a laptop environment indicating that power had gone from AC to battery and eventually battery low then the management console in Windows could trigger a task.
I think that could work.

Bill P. - any ideas?
The first thing I thought of before asking you was scripting somehow in order to get email notifications to work but whatever we can think of will need to be creative because Back UPS and PowerChute Personal Edition is geared towards average consumers and not really a power user. It basically only provides pop up notifications and then graceful shutdown of the machine it is installed on. There is some info here on that if that could be an option but it seems like that is not what you need and wouldn't really help execute any tasks. Script against PowerChute Personal Edition?
Ultimately, I think a different type of UPS and PowerChute Business Edition would work well since it allows you to execute a command file but maybe we can think of something else. One option that might work is using a different serial cable we offer (940-0128) and using it with PowerChute Business Edition in what we call simple signaling mode. It will give you far less information (no battery charge, input voltage, etc) but it will strictly report on battery and low battery and give the command file option.
