Hello,
I have a BR1500 Back-UPS.
I have a workstation and a western digital share space external network drive. The WD share space says it works with the BR1500 and indeed it recongnizes the UPS and can be configured to shut down, if it is the only device connected to the UPS. Likewise with the computer running the powershute software will recognize the UPS.
How to I connect them both (computer + external drive) to the same UPS so that they will both shut-down when the UPS goes on battery. Either one will do this if connected alone, but I want to connect them both to the same UPS.
Thx

As you seem to have discovered on your own, splitters and hubs will not work, and like Techie said, the selector tool is based on power requirements, not shutdown requirements.
You could try to run Business Edition in simple signaling mode and make a shutdown script for the 2nd device, whatever you choose it to be. PCBE has the option to run a script when shutting down, which Personal Edition lacks.

Hi Richard,
In my opinion, both the systems can not be shutdown by using a single Back UPS BR1500. Because the UPS has got a single communication bus. So it can communicate with any one of the devices at a time via the USB cable.

This is a surprise to me as on the APC website I went through the configuration wizard and indicated I had two workstations and it recommended this particular UPS. And I even got the backup battery pack.
Are you sure there isn't some kind of splitter cable?
I have tried two different USB splitters and hubs but they don't seem to work.

hmm..as far as I know, the UPS selector tool sizes the UPS only based on the power requirement not on the Computer shutdown requirement.
Unfortunately, the USB splitter will not make the UPS to recognize two Computer/PCs at a time.
